Hosted Booking Page vs Embedded Widget: Which Is Right for Your Workshop?

Should customers book on your own website, or on a dedicated booking page? Both work — but they suit different workshops. Here is a plain-English comparison so you can pick the right one (or use both).

When you add online booking, there are two ways customers can actually book: on a hosted booking page (a dedicated page hosted for you), or through an embedded widget dropped into your existing website. Both take the same booking and land it in the same calendar — they just meet the customer in a different place. Here's how to choose.

The hosted booking page

A hosted page is a ready-made, branded booking page at its own link (e.g. workshopbook.com.au/book/your-workshop). You share that link — on Google Business, Instagram, an SMS, or a QR code at the front desk — and customers book there.

Best when:

  • You don't have a website, or your site is hard to edit.
  • Most of your traffic comes from Google Business, socials or word of mouth.
  • You want to be live today with nothing to install.

Trade-off: customers briefly leave your own domain to book — a non-issue for most workshops, and the page is still fully branded to you.

The embedded widget

An embed drops the booking form straight into a page on your own website with a single line of code. Customers never leave your site — they book right there, on your domain, themed to your brand colour.

Best when:

  • You already have a website that gets traffic.
  • You want booking on your own "Book Now" or "Contact" page.
  • You care about keeping visitors on your domain (and feeding your own site's engagement).

Trade-off: you (or whoever manages your site) needs to paste one snippet in. With WorkshopBook that's a copy-paste — no developer — and the widget resizes itself to fit.

Which should you use?

Honestly: most workshops should use both. Embed the widget on your website for visitors who land there, and share the hosted link everywhere else — Google Business, socials, email signatures, the QR code at reception. Same engine, same calendar, more places to capture a booking.

A quick rule of thumb: no website or a clunky one → start with the hosted page. Good website with real traffic → embed it, then use the hosted link as your "everywhere else" booking link.
